Photographers of the Washington/Baltimore Metro Area

We will meet and photograph the ruins at Eastern State Penitentiary in Philly.

Eastern State Penitentiary was once the most famous and expensive prison in the world, but stands today in ruin, a haunting world of crumbling cellblocks and empty guard towers.

Eastern State Penitentiary is located in beautiful, historic Fairmount, a neighborhood of Victorian homes and some of the best restaurants in the region.

Known for its grand architecture and strict discipline, this was the world’s first true “penitentiary”, a prison designed to inspire penitence, or true regret, in the hearts of the convicts. It housed the notorious criminal Al Capone. Today you can see and photograph his cell as it was decorated in 1929 when Capone was serving a 9 month sentence for carrying a concealed weapon.

ADMISSION TO THE PENITENTIARY (without committing a crime):
When purchasing online, admission is $14 for adults, $12 for seniors, and $10 for students and children ages 7-12. When purchasing at the door, admission is $16, $14, and $12, respectively.

!! Photographers using a tripod must purchase an equipment pass for an additional fee of $10. !!
