UPDATE FROM Mid-Atlantic Photo Visions

Dear Photographer,

We hope you are taking care of yourself, your family and friends. With that priority in mind, the board of directors has decided that the first Mid-Atlantic Photo Visions event, formerly Nature Visions Photo Expo, is postponed until the Fall of 2021. We are hopeful that our keynote and many other speakers slated for 2020 can be with us next year. Our slated keynoters for 2020: Rick SammonJosh CrippsKristi Odom and Julieanne Kost.

In the Fall of 2020, we eagerly invite you to follow us on Facebook and Instagram as we announce the results of MAPV competitions, especially the new subcategories for Photo Arts: Architecture, Abstract, Documentary & Street, Still Life, Sports & Action and Other.

The change of our name reflects our goal to provide education on all photography genres, not just nature photography. We aim to use the extra time before the first Mid-Atlantic Photo Visions event to better achieve that goal.

Thank you for your interest in Mid-Atlantic Photo Visions. We are hopeful that normal life and pursuits like photography will be fully restored in the future.

Sincerely,

Punit Sinha & Sidney Stone, President & Vice President

2020 PSA Photo Festival

The 82nd Annual PSA Photo Festival has been CANCELED

April 23, 2020 - It is with thoughtful reluctance and much sadness that the PSA Executive Committee has made a decision to cancel the planned Photo Festival in Colorado Springs in September. This was a very difficult decision to make, knowing that the 2020 Photo Festival is highly valued and anticipated; but paramount to the decision was putting the health, safety, and peace of mind of our membership first. In the absence of a vaccine, our gathering, especially with many members in the high-risk category, would simply be accepting too much risk for all of us. Check the website for details and updates: https://psa-photo.org

CENTRAL MARYLAND PHOTOGRAPHERS GUILD (https://www.cmpg.photography)

5/6             Monthly meeting (virtual): Paul Biederman - Flowers to Floral Images. Flowers have been the most photographed subject before selfies were born. Flowers are the perfect photographic subject. They possess innate qualities color, shape, and form; they vary by the way they are illuminated, the time of day, and the growing cycle; they are innate and can’t talk back to you; they are universal; they can be grown, purchased in the store, or found in gardens: and, they have many associated meanings (love, friendship, beauty, and transcendence).  Most Flower pictures are snap-shots, some are replicas (clinical), and some are artistic (floral). Through preparatory pre-processing, capturing, technical know-how, culling and post-processing (including pixel-painting), transformation occurs.  This short course will be an introduction to providing a gateway and inspiration to creating art from your floral images.

Nature Visions – Now Mid-Atlantic Photo Visions - UPDATEMid-Atlantic Photo Visions is the new name for Nature Visions. It takes place on November 6-8, 2020 at the Hylton Performing Arts Center in Manassas, Virginia. The name change reflects that in recent years we have moved to provide education for all photography genres, and not just nature photography.

Our keynote speakers this year are the multi-talented Rick Sammon, wilderness landscape photographer Josh Cripps, nature photographer Kristi Odom and Lightroom/Photoshop superstar Julieanne Kost.

Award-winning photographer Rick Sammon is a tireless, prolific and inspirational image-maker.  Rick is a man on a mission – a mission to make digital photography fun, creative, exciting and rewarding for others.  His images, from his travels to more than 100 countries, have been published in numerous newspapers and magazines, and have been featured in his 40 books, including the popular Rick Sammon’s Evolution of an Image (2017), and in his online classes.  A natural teacher, Rick enjoys sharing his photographs and providing practical how-to advice to a wide audience of photo enthusiasts through his blog, books, how-to videos, a podcast and an expanding following on social media.

Josh Cripps likes to say he has the best job in the world.  A wilderness landscape photographer, he leads tours internationally, teaches on the web, appears at conferences like Mid-Atlantic Photo Visions, and hosts a YouTube channel with 300,000 subscribers.  If you want to experience the beauty of nature, improve your own photos, or even turn your photography into a business then it's time you got to know Josh.

Nikon Ambassador Kristi Odom is an internationally acclaimed photographer and sought-after motivational speaker. She teaches photographers to focus on improving their work through advanced camera skills and by creating an emotional connection with their subject.  Her accolades include a Masters accreditation from WPPI, and over 60 international photography awards including two Nature’s Best Photography awards and 26 Fearless awards.  Her recent work has been exhibited twice at the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History.

Julieanne Kost is Adobe's Principal Digital Imaging Evangelist and, in our minds, a superstar of Lightroom and Photoshop education. Julieanne combines practical tips and tricks with an equal amount of humor and creativity.  If you haven't become a pupil of Julieanne's yet, please join her at Photo Visions for an enjoyable, informative learning experience that will wow you.

Our home since 2010, the Hylton Performing Arts Center in Manassas, Virginia has completed its long-awaited expansion. This will permit all Photo Visions activities to be hosted within the Hylton Center building. The new space will also permit all vendors to be located on the main floor.

Registrants can attend FREE educational sessions for beginning photographers, take in two FREE exhibits and visit with national and local vendors of equipment, supplies and instruction.  Entry is FREE.

Visit MidAtlanticPhotoVisions.org for more information on speakers and activities as it becomes available.  You can follow us on Facebook too.  Passes for paid presentations go on sale on August 1.

PSA 2020 Photo Festival Information from Twila Bourlon, PSA Photo Festival Chair

PSA wants to confirm that we currently plan to hold the Photo Festival in Colorado Springs. Many procedures are underway to curtail and treat this global virus, and many activities have been canceled, but many others are still in place. This is especially the case for those events and activities occurring in the last 3-4 months of the year. The PSA Photo Festival is not until late September, so we want you to register as usual beginning April 1, 2020. You will be able to register without making a payment at time of registration. Know, too, that if the coronavirus pandemic is unchecked or very much unknown nearer the Festival time, you will receive a FULL REFUND for the registration and tour fees you have paid.

Check the website for details and updates: https://psa-photo.org
